“Babasaheb didn’t just change my life. He gave me the courage to live it with dignity.”

-Dr. Kalpana Saroj

Babasaheb didn’t just change my life.
He gave me the courage to live it with dignity.

There are turning points in life that don’t just change your path — they change who you are.

For Kalpana Saroj, that turning point came in the form of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s teachings and the timeless wisdom of Lord Buddha. In the midst of unimaginable pain, rejection, and loneliness, she found in Dhamma not a religion — but a path to reclaim her humanity.

“Babasaheb Ambedkar didn’t just show us the path — he gave us the courage to walk it.”

She read his words. She followed his footsteps. She listened to the silence within — and something shifted.

Guided by Dhamma

At the heart of the Kalpana Saroj Foundation lies the timeless wisdom of Lord Buddha and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s call for equality. These values guide every decision we take:

  1. Karuna (Compassion): To serve without barriers of caste, creed, or background.

  2. Samata (Equality): To ensure every individual receives respect and opportunity.

  3. Veerya (Effort): To bring change not by waiting, but by acting with courage and heart.

  4. Maitri (Friendship): To walk together in kindness, building trust and harmony in every step.

This is the foundation of everything we do.

What Drives Me:

A Personal Note from Dr. Kalpana Saroj

People call me a success story. But my story began in a place where girls were not supposed to dream. Every day felt like survival  until I discovered Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Through his words, I realized I was not invisible, not powerless. He taught me that struggle can be turned into strength, and that dignity is every human being’s right. His fight for justice became my inspiration to rise  and to create pathways for others to rise with me.

Honoring a Promise to Babasaheb

Every step we take is a step to keep his flame alive, the belief that no matter who you are or where you come from, you have the right to rise.

When we secured Dr. Ambedkar’s London home for India, it wasn’t just about preserving heritage. It was a vow  to carry forward his dream of justice, dignity, and equality for all.

A Flame Carried from Babasaheb to the World

For Kalpana Saroj, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was more than a role model — he was the compass that shaped her life. His vision of equality and justice didn’t sit on the pages of books; it pulsed through her actions, giving her strength when society gave her none.
So when she embraced Buddhism, it wasn’t ceremony but conviction. It was a vow to carry Babasaheb’s torch forward not just for herself, but for generations to come. From leading international Buddhist gatherings to hosting Buddha Jayanti at the Gateway of India, she turned faith into movement.
And perhaps her most enduring act of devotion came when she fought to preserve Babasaheb’s London home. She petitioned leaders, met ministers, and even reached the Prime Minister determined that this place of history would become a heritage site for India. When the Government secured it, the victory was not political. It was deeply personal.

“That house carried his struggle. His fire. His dreams.
We couldn’t let it go. Not on my watch.”

- Dr. Kalpana Saroj

Strength in Stillness

My mornings begin in silence — not in ritual, but in renewal. In that quiet space, I carry the memory of battles I’ve fought, and the peace of those I’ve overcome.
My journey is rooted in hardship, yet what defines me is not struggle, but the stillness I found in the Dhamma. Through it, I discovered resilience beyond fear and a purpose greater than myself: to walk with others as they find their own path to dignity.

“Pain shaped me, but Dhamma freed me.
In its peace, I found strength no one could take away.”
